About two kilometers from the town of Akumal, along the road that leads to Uxuxubi, a land clearing reveals what is only the beginning of a colossal devastation.

It is a real estate “development,” according to a worker who was in the area.

Together with environmental activist Elias Siebenborn, we set out to review the ecological gazette of the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) from 2024 to date, without finding any Environmental Impact Statement related to this site.

According to some people, it would be a project driven by a Spanish citizen who allegedly has some politicians as partners; and given the speed at which the ecocide is advancing, the information seems to be true.

The development is located near the route of the Maya Train.

Although the Riviera Maya is going through one of its worst moments after its sustained tourism and real estate boom, the large projects that are destroying the jungle and the region’s water wealth have not stopped — on the contrary, they have been boosted by the Maya Train, which has brought no benefit to its population.
